the terminologyit casually throws at you, the absolute lack of any intuitive sense of design for menus and options.. i dont want to have to have had computer lessons to use a fucking peronal computer.i use a mac at work to a high tecnical level of software operation, why this confusing piece of shit is eluding me i honestly don tknow.

Vista is shit
I had the same problem on my dell laptop, got my mate to install xp on it and it's been fine ever since.
Installing xp was a bit of a pain in the ass though and took him a lot longer than he expected. So i would get someone with decent computer knowledge to help you out if your going to.

I know how you feel. Sometimes I use the PCs at uni, to print mostly. It takes 15 minutes to log on, then you put your memory stick in and it tells you you've put your memory stick in about 20 times before finally loading it up 5 minutes later. Then you load Office which has the stupidest interface ever, wonder how the hell you print because nothing is where it should be and half the time it decides it doesn't want to print your document anyway. Basically it takes half an hour to do what you can do on a Mac in 2 minutes.
James has got Mac OS on his Dell, you probably have to know a lot to do that.

you need to go commando Nikey (ie. use XP)

I had exactly the same problem with Vista when I got my Sony laptop. Plus it crashed almost all the time. In the end I ended up installing Linux/Ubuntu which I've been really happy with. It's stable, fast, and you can modify it to look and run just as you like (mine's pretty much just like a mac). And, you can run Windows programs through Wine too. It was a bit of hassle in the beginning but couldn't be happier now.

using xp over here nikey - don't fuck with vista. worst piece of software ever created.

Yikes Nikes, I feel bad for recommending Dell to you, but hopefully it's just a general PC and Vista thing. Most Mac users find PCs completely shit. I've got XP and it does seem to make sense to me so maybe this is what you've got to get.

It's all about Windows 7.. It is very good indeed.

I'm pretty sure Dell would change the os over for you - you can search for their cheaper rate phone number here:
I can use any operating system but I choose to use Mac OS on my machines because it's less hassle. I spend a lot of time at working fixing computer problems, why would I want to do the same when I get home? The only problem I've had with OS X was with iTunes and I solved that by uninstalling and reinstalling it.
Anyone who says that it doesn't have a great degree of configuration options and all that shit is an idiot.
Vista is a pain the arse, XP crashes frequently (so does Vista) - usually requires a reboot at least once a day in my experience. I use a Mac at work but our corporate network is on Windows and I'm not allowed to plug it into the corporate network because they aren't supported by the IT section. I use a broadband connection and Citrix to access all the Windows stuff so whilst it's buggering around taking 10 minutes to load my profile (which has next to nothing in it) and 'Applying security settings' I can still get some work done under OS X - I have one monitor with Windows on it and the other one with OS X.
Look at turning your Dell into a Hacktosh Nikey. There's a regular poster on here who is lives in London and might be able to do it for you.
Macs might seem expensive but they look better than PCs and the software isn't too badly priced, £25 for Snow Leopard, £50 for iWork - which I much prefer to Office and the family packs are great value if you've got more than one Mac (I have four at home at the moment, three of them are mine). It's worth the extra cash so you don't get a load of grief all the time.

it's funny (hilarious) because it's true

lol aaarrrggghhh you've got to love Windows with all it's quirks and idiosyncrasies haven't you? Nice to know we, even if in a small way, keep people like James in business fixing the damn things.
