HOW THE FUCK do i copy a file from a dc onto my desktop (or anywhere). whatever i do it just creates a shortcut.

i will piss on this computer

onurengin- 10-28-2009
(cut) ctrl+x or (copy) ctrl+c and then ctrl+v

nikey- 10-28-2009
tried it it just creates a 44 byte shortcut

James- 10-28-2009
Right click the file, keep the button held down and drag the file to the desktop. A menu will appear asking whether you want to copy it or create a shortcut.

nikey- 10-28-2009
thanks, but nope.
the 'menu' options were 'copy here' or 'cancel'. 'copy here' produces a 44 byte shortcut, cancel does nothing.

hate.

If you drag a file from an audio CD onto your desktop on OSX it creates an AIFF file, perfectly logical.

On Windows it creates a shortcut you're saying. Seems you have to rip the CD first, Windows Media Player can do that but can it do it as a WAV? I don't know because I can't remember.

This is probably your best option.

yes, and you see it's made a .wma file. beautiful, isn't it. windows again making the wrong decision without even asking me what i wanted. where do you want to go today? to the industrial waste compactor.

i don't really want to do any converting of the file. as i understand it audio cd tracks are in fact aif files already.

as for hackingtosh, i think that would be madly frustrating for me to implement and maintain.

thanks for the input, if i disappear assume i've injured myself trying to 'kill' this laptop.

Get someone else to install it and don't bother doing updates.

yup

On Windows you need CDA to WAV software.

CDex is supposed to work and it's free. You want the installer for Windows NT Series. I haven't tested it because I don't have Windows on any of machines any more.

FreeRIP will rip your CDs for you - WAVs or MP3s. Not sure if this is what you wanna do - nice easy (and free) piece of software though:

i was thinking about hackintosh, but you have to be very careful to have compatible hardware (especially mainboard chipsets) to get a fully running system. as i didn't want to order my hardware from 10 different shops, i gave up the idea.

however, i've seen it running perfectly on some netbooks - can be done without much work.
