That's a really nice Patrice Rushen tune i keep meaning to get it - it's a big one with Dave Love Jones over in Vancouver Dayo :-)

That Whistling track is kind of addictive! I can lose patience with pure jamming freestyle jazz records, so I liked how there were these cool soft bars and a neat whistling feature drawing alot into the track. Was digging the Graffiti track as well, had a folksy connection with the style of vocal.

Music of the Earth was awesome. This sort of catchy boogie track with the sly disco elements, are timeless and captivating – a great tribute to how dance music has evolved since from those days.

Fascinating to read about Raknash and how that was recorded in Bombay. I see a little bit to the Indian raga connection, the bass performs a very meditative set of notes, and feels straight out of a calm and rural mountainous landscape.

And I’m sure you ain’t gonna be surprised for me to pick out the Common track for being my best part of the mix! I do love the work done with that jazz sample, and yeah Common has achieved alot of great music in his lifetime, that he deserves to be considered when talking about great hip hop artists in the last decade or so.

First time I heard the I Want You Back original, sounds very nice with the horns and crisp drum patterns throughout in the backdrop providing a bouncy atmosphere. Definitely feels though that the MJ vocals are missing still!

Dayo Its great stuff – only recently had to listen to it properly these were the highlights for me

Steve Grossman "Capricorne - pt.2"

Extra Ball "Rozmyslania Nad Jeziorem Czad"

Babs Robert & The Love Planet "Extra-Pol-Action (Ice Cream 1970)

Jimmy Gourley "Graffiti"

Max Roach feat. Abbey Lincoln "Long As You're Living

The Jazz-Hip Trio "Orange Boom" I recall this was comped some time back (not sure how legit the comp was though..)

The Johnny Scott Quintet "Caravan" This is a banging version and one of the best I’ve heard!

Patrice Rushen "Music Of The Earth"

Sam Sanders & Visions "Free Fall" lovely horns in an almost Robert Watson way bad tune

Michael White "Commin' From" Great funky jazz and that bline at the end….

Pharaoh Sanders "Harvest Time" This is just majestic

Marvin Gaye "After The Dance [Inst]" This is just so ahead and the end sounds like something from the P&P stable!!

Khan Jamal "Pure Energy" is heavyness

Well put together Dayo look forward to part 4

Liam

Not heard the Will downing in years (was a BIG tune up this way) and it still sounds bad due a revive I reckon

The DJ sprinkles reminds me of NYC house ala strictly in early 90s I also like bassline dub mix of this

Theo Space station is typical Detroit angularity and I could easily drop to this – best tune on the mix and one of the best new dancefloor oriented tracks I’ve heard in sometime- I need to hear more like this when I’m on the floor RAW house music

While on the subject that Theo tune with the Latin percussion, rough bassline and typical Detroit synth lines on the roots revisited ep still defies belief

SJ3 sounded fine while cooking dinner for the fam tonight. Nice work Dayo. Good to hear something quality from Extra Ball 'cause they've done some dodgy stuff! FDA - I too remember Orange Boom from a not-so-legit comp.

strictly for my ninjas pt 2

A bit more digging into what I love the best.... cross genre business, mixed in one take, a bit erratic but basically that's me. Spinning between the smoothness of Rodney Franklin's 'Felix Leo' and Chaka Khan, to Mark E's finest and then onto my re-edit of Mr Bumpman. Get's a bit detroit in there for a bit, then ends a bit jazzy. You know the steez. Enjoy
