A blind buy from the weekend before last:

Kongas "Africanism"

Not really feeling the cover of Spencer Davis Group "Gimme Some Lovin" on the a-side (apart from the "Africanism" introduction). Doesn't touch the original.

However, on the b-side you have a really great leftfield disco cut, "Dr Doo-Dah". I can't stop listening to this at the moment.

Produced by Cerrone.

was happy to pick this total classic up the other day. Very Heavy track list. Didn't realize Ron Cater and Hubert Laws appear on it.

Hello BW - long time no speak. wink.gif

I have just discovered Level 42... picked this up yesterday, really enjoying it!

On my recent trip to NYC and Philly I picked up the 'Rated X Records' (usually Danny Krivit) remix/re-edit of Starchild from this lp; had a nice rejig of ESG's Moody on the flip too.

Among the 12s I picked up was a copy of 'Situation' by Yaz (Yazoo to us) which has an amazing Kervorkian dub on the flipside. A 99cent bargain; also grabbed near mint copies of 'The Roof is on fire', 'Planet Rock', 'Eighth wonder' and 'It's nasty' from the same 99cent bargain bin, as well as Lady B's "To the beat y'all" which I've been after for a while (and, of course, THAT Claudja Barry EP)

Too many LPs to try and list (at least 100 in total) but lots of soul (The Impressions, Al Wilson, Lou Rawls - including his David Axelrod produced Christmas LP biggrin.gif ), jazz (Jimmy Smith, Eddie Harris, three or four Ramsey Lewis, four Brian Auger, Esther Sutterfield), disco (Instant Funk, Montana, Demis Roussos, Angela Boffil), breaks/funk (Booker T & the MGs - the McLemore Ave LP, The JBs...

Not so much in the way of 7s but did get a few; bit of James Brown, few bits on Invictus, an untitled (well, I can't read Japanese) Yellow Magic Orchestra single, a few Dionne Warwick singles on Scepter, Seals & Croft's original take on Summer Breeze, wicked version of Papa was a Rolling Stone but I can't remember the artists name off the top of my head, Nina Simone's version of Here Comes The Sun... most of which were no more than 49cents.

Somehow I didn't get had for excess weight at the BA desk... Bought a record bag to get 70 home as hand luggage and then split the rest among the suitcases... kind lady at the check-in told me to take some out and carry them on and *bingo* another $45 per bag saved.

NYC record shopping is now all about Williamsburg and Brooklyn but Philly was just as good.

Got hours of fun ahead working my way through these biggrin.gif

That said, couldn't resist picking up the latest Peter Vistri 12 on Eskimo when I popped into town at the weekend and with a title like "Late Nite Balearic Monster" it has a lot to live up to but it's pretty damn good.

Interesting adventures! Were you out there mainly to dig, or was that just an added bonus?

Can barely imagine buying that many records at once... maybe one day. ohmy.gif
