From the past month:

Space "Magic Fly" - Some of this sounds like the type of music you'd hear in a disco scene from "A Clockworlk Orange", more classical than disco. But the right at the end you have "Carry On, Turn Me On", a well-known but quality tune.

Seawind "Light The Light" - Slick and soulful late seventies vibes. You probably all know the big tune "Free" but "Hold On To Love" is also great.

Black Ivory "Hangin' Heavy" - Waited far to long before picking this up. "Mainline" should need no introduction. Quality Leroy Burgess and Patrick Adams vibes.

Debbie Jacobs "High On Your Love" - Amazing disco from 1980.

East Flatbush Project "Tried By 12" - Nice to find a copy of this after missing on it when it first came out. Classic hip hop from 1996 with one of my favourite uses of that Al Green beat.

Various "The LP Crashes Hard Drives" - One of those Record Store Day releases, comes with a nice, thick card sleeve, some great artwork, a nice fanzine and a Light In The Attic sampler CD. And more importantly tracks from quality lables such as Timmion, Jazzman, Daptone, Finders Keepers etc. It has that nice "Marcus Garvey" track from the Hypnotic Brass Ensemble.

There were a couple of others that I can't remember...

Level 42 - The Early Tapes

Is that the one with Hot Water on it? Seem to remember that as a stand out tune.

Went into a 2nd hand record store for the first time in ages (mostly online purchases nowadays) and picked up the following:

Al Jarreau: Jarreau: WEA 1983 - has Mornin' on it;
Junior: Mama Used to Say (American Remix): Mercury 1981 - more Brit soul than funk, but Guy Barker plays trumpet on it. Haven't heard the remix yet so I hope that they don't ruin the original;
Joe Jackson: Night and Day: A&M 1982 - for Steppin' Out basically;
Streetsounds Vol 5 - Freeez "I.O.U", Terri Wells "You Make It Heaven", Oliver Cheatham "Get Down Saturday Night" and the big one for me, Kenny Lynch "Half the Day's Gone".

Oh, and picked up Stanley Cowell's "Musa" LP on Strata East for his moving solo piano version of Equipoise.

Not got too much recently on the vinyl front due to a lack of funds, but did pick up the new Boxcutter lp, the new Onra and the new Bob Dylan biggrin.gif

Also been getting into a group called the BEF (british electronic foundation) that a friend introduced me too, really interesting stuff from the 80's that was definitely ahead of it's time [from a former Human League member]

i spent megabucks with juno last week but all that springs to mind right now is i bought the re-edit of that's the kind of love i've got for you and the newest rahaan ones (including the version of hit n run he played at the start of his southport set. flashback swoon!), oh, and a cover version of movin' by ray camacho.

i have also spent megabucks with dj friendly on:
johnnie taylor - what about my love (7")
mastermind - happy music (for the instrumental)
and something on casablanca but i can't remember the name.

beans on toast until pay day.

Have you checked "Just Ain't Good Enough" off the same LP? Nice strings, chorus, big sound just like "what about my love".

Brenda Lee Eager - When I'm With You 45 (Another relatively unknown Mizell Bros gem)

that is a belter of a tune, was listening to this the other day (off of a comp) and had to listen again twice

Hi mate, yes it's great - don't know why it wasn't better known, but hey - most of the music I buy seems to be like that! If you're after one there's one on UK ebay right now...

good price to, for now, but I'm so skint I'm selling not buying. Anyone war any Ron Carter albums?

There was a bit of diplomatic tension between me and Anything Goes but thankfully it didn't escalate into war.

i think i have and dismissed it
will revisit

best thing about having a copy of what about my love at long last is realising how ace that 'baby won't you change your mind' bit is at the end and giving this a proper listen to
