I knew Tarun Sen Gupta in the 70s and 80s and was shocked to see a mention here that he had died. Does anyone have any more information than this and if so, could you email me? Thanks.

Karma "Kwanzaa"

Big Tune. Played it at Weeg's Fickle Formula night a few months back. Love Syreeta and Deniece Williams background 'scatting' on the track.

fantastic show guys

really interesting stories and tales from Colin, Snowboy and Bob

nice one for posting it up

muchosoul- 10-17-2009
By all accounts Snowboy rocked the Acid Jazz party last night
It was nice to catch up with him
We observed that sales of his book in the Acid Jazz merchansise shop were relativley low and at one point only two keyrings had been sold.
I was gonna purchase and ask to be signed, but am looking forward to a digital version with a digital signature

So - I finally finished the book yesterday - it's taken best part of 5 months to read the whole thing - whereas it took Sanj only 5 days... wink.gif

As I said way up the thread it was good to see the likes of Hugh Albert and Sheldon from the Cutting Edge get interviewed. Slightly disappointing that they didn't contribute a chart to the back of the book though.

The Cutting Edge session when it ran at Clowns Wine Bar circa 1987-1990 was simply - essential. I never missed a week. biggrin.gif

So I've just knocked up this list of some of the BIG tunes that I heard played down there by Tim, Hugh, Sheldon and the guest DJs...feel free to add your recollections (Mags?)

jazzy – willie colon

talking drum - ginger johnson

the sayonara blues - horace silver

tragic magic - nathan davis

meci bon dieu - charlie rouse

de i comalee ah - jackie mclean & michael carvin

latino – oliver nelson

leo en la habana - leo rosa

mr day – john coltrane

3 in 1 mozambique – ricardo ray

the african bossa nova – ahmed abdul malik

el ghada – ahmed abdul malik

azucar pt 2 & 3 – eddie palmieri

yaw barima - guy warren

psychedelic blues – willie bobo

Sorry Weeg, only just seen this post.

My recollections are hazy of the Cutting Edge sessions. I remember when I played there that I was quite nervous being in the company of people that had the knowledge.

A few that I plyaed would have been along the lines of..

Russ Henderson - West Indian Drums on Allegre

Bobby Matos - Tema De Alma Latina - Philips

Horace Silver - Nutville - Blue Note

Sabu Martinez - Oracle - Alegre

Pony Poindexter - Gumbo Filet - Prestige

Twisting Kings - Conga Twist - Motown

Johnny Lytle - Selim

Buck Clarke Sound - Night in Tunisia - Argo

Ben Webster & Illinois Jacket - Mambocito Mio - Verve

Would have been a fix of Blue Note, Prestige, Tico, Fania and Alegre with some cheap fusion and Brazilian. Plenty more I guess but it was a long time ago.

Fine fine list there Mags. biggrin.gif

I should have added the track "feel" from that same Buck Clarke Sound Lp to my original list - as that was one that Hugh defintely used to play.

Another one I'm sure that used to get dropped - the awesome "you either have it or you dont" from this:

I just sold that LP last month mate - having a re-shuffle of my latin.

Great LP though - solid tracks all the way through!
