Looking forward to checking this out JB. Wasn't sure whether you're on mic or behind the scenes here, but I gather now you'll be on mic. Great.

Andrew said my story about getting a copy in Japanese by accident came up. Still got that copy too. Taking me a while to get through it as you could imagine!

I haven't had a look on here for about 3 weeks. It's good to see it's as lively as ever.

Obviously much is said in my book about what Paul Murphy played at The Electric Ballroom but it occurred to me that there's nothing about what he played at The Wag. It's odd for me because I played there all the time with different bands and went all the time, but I'll be buggered if I can recall much (probably because I was always pissed!). I'd be interested to see what you lot remember being played Murphy-era Wag? Let's have it!

Someone enquired as to why Jason Jules wasn't in the book, and where he is these days? I didn't know of Jason to be frank and his name didn't come up once in anyone's interviews or my research (which was vast). I realise how important he is now, of course. He co-promoted my 'Beyond The Ballroom' session recently with Paul Bradshaw and was at our 'friends and family' private book launch (which our very own Alan 'appy ammer Al' Arscott attended with his missus). Jasons a lovely man.

Four more book launches to come:

Sunday September the 20th @ Sela in Leeds

Saturday September the 26th @ Caister Soul Weekender

Sunday November the 1st @ Metropolis (nee Jesters) in Bristol

Saturday November the 7th @ Southport Dance Weekender

We're still trying to finalise ones in Manchester and Birmingham. They will happen but they've got to be just right. The Glasgow one fell out. That would have been an important one (with Bob Jefferies, Nick Peacock and Kerrso). Shame. Any readers here got a venue in Glasgow?

Regarding the Jazz Dancers, and the question - "Do they love Jazz?" This is a can of worms. I know that there are those that do and those that are more just interested in the battling, and, therefore, they could be dancing to anything as long as the tempo was right. Don't forget that Baz Fe Jazz, The Educated Jazz Men, Hewan Clarke, Tony Minvielle, Andy Bex, Paul Anderson Tony Hylton and Bob Jeffries were also rated dancers as well as famous DJ's. I know that the Brothers In Jazz, The Floor Techs, IDJ, Jazz Defektors, The Groove Merchants, Rob Hylton, Zia Basit and countless other dancers all have excellent Jazz collections. On the other hand there are many, many dancers that don't know any artists or song titles and are not bothered. They just want to jump in the circle and burn up the competition.

Australia - John, thanks for caring enough to get an hour long show on my book on RRR. That's a fantastic (and national!) radio station. It was a pleasure to do it. By the way, for you readers here: It's great to see Ennio Styles on this thread. Ennio is a great guy and Australia's biggest knowledge on our scene (well obviously not now that John lives there). He's done a hell of a lot for our scene down-under. Watch what you say to him though. Be nice - he's a lawyer!!! So it's 'Mr. Styles' to you lot!

Snowboy- 09-05-2009
By the way...........

Chris Hill. Read his interview in my book. It's quite a revelation. Now there's a man with Jazz credentials. Whatever peoples perceptions of him are (good, bad or indifferent), it's an eye-opener of an interview, and also, look at how many other DJ's in the book cite him as a major Jazz influence to them.

I didn't know that about Bob Jeffries, maybe that explains his willowy figure at his age laugh.gif

Mark, is there any chance of doing a book event at Out To Lunch in Nottingham? I'm sure that Jim would be well up for it

Snowboy- 09-06-2009
Wrighty, it seems unlikely that we would do a launch in Nottingham at 'Out To Lunch' because our launches include film shows, signings, involvement from the local arts council and/or dance colleges. There would need to be involvement from Jonathan too. If it was a matter of just turning up and deejaying at Jim's excellent session and calling that a launch then we could, but launches are very involved.

if you do fancy doing something in Notts, e-mail me (dj_wrighty at hotmail.com) and let me know what's involved and what needs to be done and I'll look about and see what I can sort

Ah, good Mr. Wee Gee, you've got the ball rolling nicely. Well remembered. There was a lot of mid-tempo Bop played too wasn't there. I have the first Murphy Jazz Club comp but not the second. Did Paul actually play all the stuff off of those comps? As I say, for some odd reason I just don't recall. I was so into speed-Latin and 'nose-bleed' Fusion then that the mid-tempo stuff seemed a million miles away taste-wise (and then I grew up!).

Any other tunes folks?

Yes I'm a part-time lawyer (sing it, Stevie!). Recently had to turn down some work from the Paradise Garage in fact. They said some disrespectful jazz DJ has been bad-mouthing them at any opportunity he gets!

Great list that Weegee. I have the 2 "Jazz Club" comps you mention but can you give us more details on the Jap one pls mate?.. don't know that one. I've got a Sol y Sombra comp too somewhere. Can't be sure but didn't Paul help compile that too?
