I've no doubt what you say is true as I've heard it from a number of people, no doubt I'll know for sure when I play alongside Colin in September.
I have however seen you play a number of times and you made a massive impression on me, apologies for passing this on to you but I this is what I thought and that is what I said. Not sure it needed such a rude response, DIG?

Apologies Mr Wright! Point taken.

Will you forgive me?

And Curtis is number one.

of course. I'm already looking forward to meeting and seeing CC play, it's weird that I've yet to see him.

Easy Paul nice to se you words floating around (Ket here)
Totally agree with your words about Colin Curtis......
Remember being blown away by his selections back in the day.
He had a truly loyal following.
All i can say is thanks for guiding me through you dusty racks in those old days down the market when you and breeze were minding your own selling incredible music, well cheap......

Just a quick note to say that I got my copy of the book .... loving it !
Brilliant piece of work ... Thanks and well done smile.gif

I was talking about the book with Gilles over in Croatia yesterday (just back from the Garden Festival) and we agreed that it's vitally important that this has all finally been documented. Snowboy has really illuminated a hugely important part of British dance culture, and deserves big props for the blood, sweat and tears he's had to put into bringing this to fruition.

It's also great to see Colin properly acknowledged for his pivotal contribution. As I've said before, he's the only DJ who's played a key role in the evolution of 3 major UK dance movements (Northern Soul, Jazz-Funk & Fusion, plus House - although most people have no idea about the latter). A true triple legend.

On Air TODAY - BBC Radio London : SNOWBOY Meets ROBERT ELMS
Yes... on the eve of Beyond The Ballroom, the man called Snowboy drops into BBC Radio London to meet and chat with Robert Elms (2.30pm!). Those who have read the book will know that Robert Elms has earned his own place in dance jazz history... looking forward to it. Tune in at 2pm to ensure you don't miss out!

Yes I was there

What a great session it was too…

I got there early to find a good mix of people in there and a definite buzz in the place

While I knew there would be tune played my main reason for going was to see Dick Jewell’s film the Jazz room (the first ever showing in London). After a brief intro by Snowboy and Dick Jewell it was lights down…

It really was an experience seeing all this footage, the fusion style, the fashions, the heavy tunes. Several of the dances who were in the film (made between 84 & 86) were actually in the house namely Afro, Gary Nurse, Jerry IDJ and Rocky.

Some killer moves were on show but I think the biggest cheer was when Marshall did that incredible solo – the speed of the drops really are a sight to behold I’ve posted that clip on here before and its on Dick Jewells website if you want to see it

I had a good conversation with Dick Jewell who was very amiable and humble about what is without doubt one of the most important films made of the jazz dance scene.

The film fired everyone up as the dancefloor (especially laid down for the occasion and a delight to dance on) was packed out. At this point I have to give props to the lady dancer in the house she had some fierce moves I’m telling you!

Among the travellers in the house were Newcastle, Manchester, Bristol, Swindon, Birmingham, and Northampton

As the music played, and up until the Mighty Jeddo came on Dick Fontaines Art Blakey Documentary was shown on loop

The Mighty Jeddo were LOUD and raw

There was also a TV crew filming interviews and I got speaking to them ( no I wasn’t interviewed) – this was all new to them and they did seem genuinely keen about what they were seeing. Hopefully the program will give the scene some needed exposure and bring new people into it

Good to catch up with you Dayo, Paul Brad, Snowboy, Jerry IDJ and good to meet you Jarred-

Props to everyone involved in organising a great day- Is there room for a monthly or Quarterly event?

Among the many tracks that were played:

Central Park - Chick Corea

Faces - Earth Wind and Fire

The Healer - African Roots of Jazz

The one thing - Manolo

Basta de Cuentos – Daniel Ponce Heavy Afro Cuban percussion track- I think this was playing when Snowboy said’ bet they didn’t play this in the paradise Garage’

Bahiana/Batucada - Inner sense

People make the world go round- Angela Bofill

The Travellers - Barry Miles

The book was on sale and I think all the stock went!

All in all a great day

That'll be the same Elms who referred to DJ Paul Murphy as "Paul Martin" throughout a whole double page spread feature on the Electric Ballroom in The Face back in 1984. Proof if ever it was needed that Elms could never have set foot in any of Murphy's previous earlier groundbreaking gigs at The Horseshoe, despite claiming otherwise (he was probably too busy posing in The Blitz at that time). He did champion the scene thereafter though and I suppose you have to give him some credit for that.
