Anyone got any clips of that Bruce Forsyth jazz dance interview he did (I think it was with perry) for that dance documentry he did a few years back. Sure I remember local legend Daddio going on about it...

....that was an hour long look at dance im general was'nt it? Bruce came to shiftless shuffle....but without his wife. What's the point in that?

..The Part 2 of the programme is the bit in Question & its out there...
I've lent mine out.
It's the rushes (out takes, filmed but not used) I'm after...
Lots of high end 'Shiftless Shuffle', with Brucey jumping in the ring to bust
some old school shuffle step (An education)... Again, none of this was used.
I'll have to pass the contact details on to Snowboy, so that he can try to get hold of
it.

South Of Watford 1984 (Granada TV).
Got the whole programme on Betamax... as has Weegee I think.

Thanks Al -At least someone has it!

Its a great piece of early 80's club culture. Concentrates on the whole Jazz Dance scene of that time. Has interviews with Gilles (looking really young)...

[dohtml]<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/TvW84U9XoP8&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/TvW84U9XoP8&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>[/dohtml]

Also incs Chris Phillips, Baz Fe Jazz, Andy McConell, Tommy Chase and a few others. Its narrated by Hugh Laurie if memory serves and that clip is basically Jerry and the boys rehearsing.
There's also some older clips of the wag with Gary Nurse (I think) and a soul all dayer and some stills of Paul Murphy and others.

Yes - I have this one on betamax - I was at the WAG the night they filmed Tommy Chase - look closely and you'll see me standing in my usual spot...

i just had a thought about some possible jazz dance footage
nothing major

i was at college with a geezer called simon rawles
well he had an older brother called neil who went to dingwalls religiously
well thats how i got into it all really in a roundabout way via neil

did a track called waves which was on a totally wired comp..
waves was a gary dennis night we used to go to in southend

i remember neil doing a promo film on gary dennis
but he filmed it one sunday at dingwalls
the tune he used on the video was mambo le mans by maynard ferguson > TUNE
he had the dancers on there, petersons on there djing

anyway this promo video only lasts as long as the track.. 4 mins tops
so there must be some unseen footage?
might be worth contacting neil and asking him?

i used to have the video on vhs but couldnt find it
i suppose gary dennis would have a copy but if anyone is in contact with neil rawles he might have all the unused bits?

just a thought

I have this show. It's amazing. You are correct about the Hugh laurie narration. It would be impossible (I imagine) to do a legal compilation of all this footage because of copyright etc and the royalty fees. Who'd be mad enough to put out a pirate DVD these days?

Anyone got the British Hustle film from '79?

Hi SB ! British Hustle film from '79 - I saw this on double-bill with "Capricorn One" at a cinema in Basildon .... Have you tried Chris Hill ? He may well have a copy ... Great dancing in it by the way ! Lots of Tommy Mac/Clive Clark/Mark White and other Goldmine/Crackers stars doing their thing ...

Dancing - I would love to find a copy of the Nationwide (BBC TV) Disco Dancing Championship with Frank Bough presenting ... it was on just before Christmas time 1976 ... again Clive Clark and Tommy Mac doing it ... and ofcourse as it was Nationwide they gave the prize to a kid .... This was pre ITV National Disco Dancing Championshps where Grant Santino won ... followed the next year by Julie Brown ....

Also there was Rick Astley (late 80's) video where Clive Clark was acting the part of a bar-man .... and pulling some good moves if memory serves me correctly ....

If any more spring to mind I will add ....

Neil's film was actually called 'Sweet Revolutions' (I know this because I did the graphics)
As you say it features Gary Dennis at his 'Rhythm of Life' night at Waves in Southend,
with some commentary by GP and intercepted with odd Dingwalls shot.
It's was shot in 1989 on very grainy B&W film, so there is no real clarity of the dancing.

Neil also made a longer film called 'The Hear & Now - Sampled' in 1992
Using some of same footage as 'Sweet Revolutions'
It's essentially about the acid jazz scene, the music makers from that period
on how they are influenced by and have borrowed from the past masters and
about the music business in general.
Features; Jalal, James Taylor, Galliano, GP, Paul Bradshaw, Steve Williamson, Snowboy and others.
There's a loverly sequence at the end of Mick and Desmond dancing in a studio space to Pharoah's 'You've Got To Have Freedom'

I am still in contact with Neil so I'll see there's any extra footage knocking around.

BTW Neil has gone on to become a top Documentary / Docudrama director,
his latest film will be showing later in the year. Its about Charles Manson.
Trailer here

amazing
what a small world
thanks for the info phil

i have to admit i havent seen sweet revolutions for along time
i do remember it being a bit grainy and b&w
it was really well done and appealed to us kids at the time
probably due to the the way it was edited - i think neil took risks and they paid off
sweet revolutions was done for his film graduation if memory serves?
didnt he win something for it
i might be getting mixed up
20 years ago - jeez

never saw hear and now - sampled
i was in loughborough studying at the time so lost contact with that whole crew
would like to see it - dont suppose there is anyway of seeing it?
same goes for sweet revolutions

checked out the charles manson doc trailer
looks great - the boy from stanford-le-hope has done well

thanks again phil
