can't believe i've slept on these podcasts so far (thanks dayo for the heads up)

gonna go through them chronologically, listened to the first one so far - wicked mix kerry!

love the stephanie mills, heatwave, carl anderson, royal delite...

but was well and truly whacked by the sade tune

you've taught me a lesson in 'knowing one's records' because i've had that album for a while

nice one, gonna check jim's mix next

Wicked, wicked boogie mix from a true aficionado of the genre! What I like most about this mix (apart from the music of course!) is that it encompasses what, for me, is the true spirit of ‘boogie tunes’. I think that lately the term tends to get associated with a certain style, mainly tracks from 1983 onwards, with heavy synth bass, drum machines etc. When I first became aware of boogie tunes it seemed to be more an approach to danceable, soulful music that took in different styles from different eras. Dayo’s mix is definitely on that vibe, digging deep for tracks from across a ten year period from 78- 88. The selection shows the continuing influence of disco on the genre, but also takes in jazz, gospel, house and straight up soul alongside the synth laden ‘boogie monsters’. The fact that it was conceived and executed in the immediate aftermath of the Redmen’s destruction of Old Trafford just makes it sound even sweeter.

Also loved Feel up installment 03, Jim’s mix. Everytime I comment on one of Jim’s mixes I seem to say the same thing, lovely selection, nice variety of stuff, well put together. All of these apply to this mix aswell. Also won a big thumbs up from our office manager who half way through the Bennie Maupin track turned round and simply said “what beautiful music!” Jim always throws in a couple of surprises and loved the Radiohead/ Simple minds closing section.

Also loved the initial “Feel up favourites” selection from Kerry…Stephanie Mills, Grace Jones, Heatwave, Carl Anderson among many others. All working particularly nicely on the ipod in the sunshine!

Nice one Jim, Dayo and Kerry!

scaloni- 03-21-2009
really enjoyed jim's mix

the prince > into bill withers > into marvin was inspiring

also loved the bennie maupin and pharoah sanders tunes

was well whacked with the BFC - 'galaxy' tune though

haven't heard that in ages, is that an old carl craig production? i did have a copy of it which i bought in mash on oxford st many moons ago, i doubt if i still have it. wickedddd track!!

gonna check dayo's anfield boogie mix next

jimmy jean- 03-21-2009
cheers mate, glad you enjoyed it!

that means a lot

and yes.... bfc = carl craig (circa 1990)

scaloni- 03-24-2009
been listening to dayo's 'anfield boogie' mix for the last few days now and i must say, i think i will be rinsing this mix all summer

most of the tunes have been an education to me, was only really familiar with the anita baker and atlantic starr tunes. but i can't really pick a 'tune' of the mix because they're all so good and the music just flows so well

i'm going to be on the look out for the demetrius, ron banks, one on one (badd), xavier (sweeeet.. love this), rochelle fleming, vesta williams, kashif etc etc tracks in the next coming months, will probably need a bank loan !!

killler mix dayo, thanks for introducing me to these records

full respect !!
