Been listening to John’s Weldon Irvine tribute mix for Feel Up a lot over recent days. I have all these LPs but haven’t really checked them properly for quite some time. I love mixes like this because they really make you go back to stuff you think you know. Brings back a lot of memories aswell because the Cosmic Vortex LP was one of the first original LPs I got hold of, from the legendary Soul Bowl records. I was still at school and I played it to death.
Potential pitfall with an artist like Weldon Irvine could be excessive electric piano solos but John avoids this by mixing the heavier ‘jazz’ stuff with Mr. Irvine's more funk and soul orientated output, and regularly dropping in vocal tracks.
Everyone should check this mix.

thanks so much rob i did try and put stuff on there that would appeal but wasnt too self indulgent - as you say WI does often go off on one
i really wanted to put some of the hip hop samples that have been used on there cos i dont think that many people really know about the master that is WI
also the track cosmic vortex was sampled by the ballistic brothers all them years ago! so his music does reach out across the many music genres
i actually thought no one was feeling it > apart from kerry, jimmy & dayooOO thought it was a bit of a dud to be honest
am glad you enjoyed it.. respek

and ME!
had it on again whilst out running last night - as the rush hour traffic flowed all around I was in a little oasis of calm lost in a world of JAZZ and electronic keyboard squelching.

For this mix, having lots of music in digital format and not yet owning Torq, Traktor or Serrato, I sacrilegiously used Ableton Live, recording the few bits of vinyl needed in first. I enjoyed doing it and it’s spurred me on to doing more mixes as I haven't done one for a while.
It’s a less spontaneous way of working but has lots of potential and was useful for editing. I avoided using any fancy tricks that the program allows (next time perhaps!), but I did pitch them to blend, which I think makes for fairly 'comfortable' listening. The downside being there's perhaps less drama in the mix than I'd personally like... See what you reckon… This isn’t a definitive selection by any means, just a few of the tunes I've been enjoying recently. Hopefully some of you may make it to the end
Bless bro. You know how i feel.
GREAT MIX.
