Lovely mix Kerry. Nightmares on Wax's "Les Nuits" sounds suspiciously like the next tune in the mix: Quincy Jones "Summer In The City" - which is probably why you place both tunes side by side.

Keep up Dayo - one of the biggest tunes of the nineties that one!

The track originally sampled Quincy Jones and was called "Nights interlude" (apprearing on the first album "Smokers Delight"). Then DJ Ease re-did the tune, re-did the strings himself for his Carboot Soul LP and the track became "Les Nuits", blew up massively and found itself on pretty much every chill out comp from 1999 onwards. Still a monumental record tho and still never tire of it

haha nice one beansy. Lovely tune.

*Looking fwd to checking the Hardway Bros mix, kerry. Bless.

soon-come

I've lost count of the times I used to open my downtempo sets with these first 2 tracks on kerrys mix

To further freak people out I later added the re-edit 7" of Ms badus 'On and On' which used the instrumental of Quincy Jones track as the music

You and your bloody chill out mixes

haha - I remember that trick

Always used to open up my legendary Noodle BBQ's in '99 with "les nuits" then proceed to play for 12 hours until I collapsed. Aaahh those were the days.

Anyway - back to the mix - really loving that TV on the Radio track "Goldage". Lovely stuff. Never heard of em before...

When I first started djing , all I used to play was general electronica and quirky 1 offs mixed with cinematic JAZZ

Oh happy days...............

Thanks for the propz Beane smile.gif

I only heard Les Nuits for the first time really recently - I was banging on about Nights Introlude to Jim and he told me to check the other version out (which I prefer). Just shows you how one mans chestnut is another womans undiscovered territory!

'Dear Science' (the most recent album) and 'Desperate Youth, Bloodthirsty Babes' (first album) are both highly recommended - http://www.amazon.co.uk/TV-on-the-Radio/e/...tt_art_dp_pel_1. Not got the second album but heard that's a goodun too.

Saw them live about 5/6 years ago (they were supporting another band whose name escapes me) and have been a fan ever since. I have tickets to see them in July but prob going to have to sell them due to unforeseen £2k water bill our landlord has just been hit with mad.gif

This week’s guest mix is by Friend of Feel Up Simon ‘Freaked’ Brant and is the first of a two part series celebrating his life, love of music and general all round brilliance.

Simon was taken from us close to his 34th birthday in 2006 after losing a short, tough battle against Leukaemia. A Northampton native, Simon moved to London and worked as a web designer, becoming an integral part of the BBC online development team which allowed him to combine his love of online media with his passion for music. Alongside this Simon also wrote a monthly column – ‘Freaked’ – in music magazine Straight No Chaser and made frequent DJ appearances, amassing not only hundreds of amazing records but also an army of devoted fans and friends – if you were into your music and spent any time in Shoreditch in the early days chances are you’d have bumped into him.

Simon was a keen cyclist and for the past few years a group of his closest friends have been honouring his memory by riding the 26 miles of the London Bikeathon - raising money for Leukaemia Research, the only national charity dedicated exclusively to funding research throughout the UK into the causes, treatments and cures of all blood cancers.

You can sponsor ‘Team Freaked’ and help make a difference right here: http://www.justgiving.com/TeamFreaked.

Thank you

Billie & Kerry xx

She is amazing... I think she even won the breakthrough artist award at the Brits this year...

Her recent Brighton gig sold out very quickly - gutted to have missed it. I think she's a better act than Bat For Lashes for sure and if there has to be a 'new Kate Bush' let it be Florence.

Lovely set Kerry, I've been back to it a few times now and need to get a copy of that Di Santo track asap.... heard that a fair few times over the years and never tracked it down before... eyes now well and truly opened.
