'you're the man' (alternate version 1)

WHACKKKK

where's that from jimmy?

great tribute. it's a keeper, that's for sure.
the perfect accompanianment (sp?) to my walk to work this morning

cheers sid!

its from the deluxe edition of 'lets get it on'

amazing 2 x cd of music

cheers jimmy

one complaint: it takes me about 45mins to walk to work so it's just a bit long. if you can do Vol 2 at that length it would be great. thanks.

To my ears Dayo approaches the disco genre from the same angle as his Feel up boogie mix, taking in all sides of the disco spectrum.

Early tracks on this mix show disco’s funk roots. The opening cut from Ice is based on a classic 70’s funk template, but seems to twist in a disco direction through the use of strings. Hi tension and Mandre showcase disco’s occasional jazz funk leanings. Four Tops and General Johnson exhibit the two-way connections between soul and disco.

Particular favourites include Fatback, (always loved the fender rhodes solo and sax outro on this one), Sarr Band and of course Damon Harris. Also love that Bad girls tune. As you say Dayo your ‘queen of boogie’ Jocelyn Brown on vocal duties for this outing. Also love the instrumental flip of this track where that killer bass is allowed to come to the fore.

Was also well into Kerry’s birthday mix from a few weeks ago, in particular the opening track. Absolute killer. Can never tire of hearing Mr. Fingers and love the Sasse track to.

I’d also echo JB’s previous comments on Jim’s mix, very creative approach to a Marvin tribute, love the use of dialogue, alternative cuts etc. I’m assuming there will be a volume 2 soon?

Continuing to feel the feel up.

Big thanks for the props Rob. Have to say we've been really lucky to have such brilliant guest mixes. It's definitely a bonus when your mates know their onions! tongue.gif

Tasty

Guru & Donald Byrd - Loungin' (Jazzmatazz Volume 1, Chrysalis) - is most under-rated

I am also looking forward to checking the Blue Note Live tracks which I havent heard before
