Right.... well here's this weeks crazy record, picked up at lunchtime from me local. Note: All MP3 limewire warriors / download-all-your-music-from-blogs crew - look away now
As the crazy edit train rumbles on, this week we see on paper what sounds like a downright terrible idea but actually comes off sounding like a future summer BBQ anthem, following on in style from the sort of tomfoolery Mark E and co get up to. Extended slo-mo beatdown-style versions of... wait for it.... Olivia Newton-John's "Magic" and The Bee Gee's "Love You Inside Out".
A rather strange choice of source material that will undoubtably have the beards scrambling about and sure to most probably become a rather expensive record.
I say this as it brings me to a point I'd like your thoughts on. A lot of these things only ever get pressed up on vinyl (think labels like Mindless Boogie / Jiscomusic / Moxie / Disco Deviance / Combi / Supreme / Prince Language Disco Editions / Underdog etc - almost a scene now in itself!) With limited runs of these sorts of records, the value soon sky rockets (just look at how much you'd have to fork out now for Mark E's massive Womack and Womack edit "Scared"!) which now sees a lot of DJ's scrambling to buy the twelves cos within a a fortnight they've already doubled in price. You only have to broswe through the likes of discogs etc to see this. This is a trend that seems to be becoming more frequent
Anyway - I know this only appeals to a certain section of this board as edits seem to anger many folks but I'm always of the mindset that if the tracks are something a little more obscure then that's when things start getting interesting.
Maybe I should make this an on going crazy edits thread for those oddities you stumble across on your record shopping travels

Really like the Bee Gees one. I think it was on a Mark E podcast from a while back.

You know my feelings on edits Beane. I really liked the first bit of this tune - it sounded like proper beatdown wonk. But then the vocals came in and I quickly urged Dave to take it off in Monkey.
Not my cup of tea I am afraid. Maybe I am just not into mildly obscure pop music but all I won't go near 90% of the current crop of edits.
Ask yourself this... If there was more original music being nurtured, produced, played on and marketed by the labels, distributers and punters, would anyone really be bothered about 90% of the edits in the shops right now. Would you even bother listening to them?
If you want to play disco/house/boogie style stuff and can't afford/get hold of the originals, there really isn't much choice right now...
I know I am a fine one to talk but I wish there was something else in the shops whenever I go in each week!!
(And yes I have some coming out soon)
Red Rack'em- 03-17-2009
Oh and on that note - please can someone recommend me some decent original uptempo music to buy right now....

FFS beane.
Even I am getting bored of re-edits now
Most of these tracks being re-edited at the moment are v.poor in the extreme and its almost just like its a competition to see who can re-edit the most naff / rubbish record.
That Gil Scott Heron d'n'b nonsense awhile back was beyond the pale.
and as for that 'Mystery of Man' re-edit............
I dont mind re-edits of decent tracks to tell you the truth its just that most now are just acts of turd polishing

Yeah I hear yer. I guess it's a taste thing... I love pop edits as much as I love heads down brand new backwards sounding wonk-a-thon productions. I see records for doing different things tho. For example - that Idjuts Phil Collins edit that came out last year. Sure many despised it but you know that would send a boat load of party people in croatia overboard, yet your not gonna really be dropping that at a CDR event at the Tate Gallery are yer? Weapons my dear watson. Think Arnie in Commando - when he robbed that arms store he grabbed all sorts - he knew he could face any sort of ruck (and by heck he did in the end) but he was tooled right up. Take grenades, take rocket launchers but also take a knife. A big one at that if you can. Just in case. Basically, get tooled up good and proper. You don't want to be meeting Bennet with your pants down

Nice one Beane.
The moral of the story, don't give rocket launchers to woman, they always shoot them backwards.
The Good Dr. Jazzchops- 03-17-2009
Haha, fine analogy, Beane.
Let off some steaaaaaaaam, Bennett.

beane,
I know where you are coming from
BUT
sometimes its worth just searching for the original 12"'s
Theres plenty of 'pop' 12"'s from the 1980's if you flip them over you get some really obscure / balearic/ cosmic mixes - the era was ripe for experimentationalism on the flip of pop 12"'s
