So with the Cosmic Boogie 12" sounding grand down at the recent Soul Buggin' party last friday, it looks like the main label 'Mindless Boogie' is back. This is gonna make old pickod bust his soft rock nuts - they've only gone and done an edit of Mr Mister's Top Gun anthem "Broken Wings". biggrin.gif

I bloody love that tune! Proper eyes closed bizness top off flavour

Oh - and wait till you hear whats on the other side  laugh.gif

Oh - and if anyone could shed some light on what the originals are of the tracks on the Dompteur Mooner's "Music For Espionage EP" I'd be very thankful... especially "Le Coq Rouge". Well deadly

Dear oh dear oh dear! That sounds friggin terrible, Beane! Dave'll have a hernia when he's sees/hears that laugh.gif

Mindless Boogie puts out more duffers than good stuff imho.

Beane won't rest until he never has to hear the orginal, unedited version of any song ever again.

Whitesnake's - "Is This Love"

I thought they'd taken it as far as they could with that Dolly Parton 12" from a few years back but no, they've outdone themselves this time!

Words fail me.

Beane you need to read the intro to this weeks Piccadilly recs mail out :-

my job contract states that I have to 'see the good in every record I review, even if I don't like them'. However, I will say; When have Whitesnake ever been Balearic? Is that the Balearic of 'let's just call any old crap from the 80s Balearic and see if people believe us'. As we all know, one person's guilty pleasure is another person's shit-list topper.

Keep It Wheel- 10-05-2009
That Dolly 'Jolene' edit was actually ok... I certainly played it out. Mindless Boogie's Turtles and Wings edits werer pretty good too but both sides of this are so far into MOR territory that it beggars belief.

The curious thing is that although there are still loads of decent re-edits of fantastic records coming out almost every day - take that Rui Maia rub of Japan's Cantonese Boy as an excellent example of a decent re-edit of a criminally ignored tune - there are some out there who seem to think Sean Rowley's endorsement is the sign of a good tune and rinse it through Logic and see what comes out of their drunken mouse clicks.
This is way beyond polishing a turd; it's panning it for sweetcorn.

Now, the question that needs to be asked: Beane, did you buy it? And, if so, why?

Nah, not buying anything at the mo unless I really have to. Still waiting for the bloody dole to pay up. How hard is it to get money out of em!!

Saying that tho, I do love the original broken wings track. Big up all the top gun heads biggrin.gif

Back to the edits tho - after last months Dompteur Mooner's version of "Brick in the wall" old beatfanatics just done a version I see? Blimey they're like buses. Although I guess this isn't really an edit - although Dayo "Everything's an Edit" Adewuyi would probably disagree laugh.gif

the peter visti version of Jolene was utter genius + has real durability as well

it was fun, it was kooky, it made people chuckle & it had a devastating left hook

I am an enthusiastic advocate of clever re-edits or tracks which strip out the annoying aspects of the original record eg the horrible shania twain-esque bit in chilly's otherwise classic 'for your love'

the new leftside wobble edit of the beatles tomorrow never knows is an absolute belter as well

nikey- 10-05-2009
anyone heard the 15peter twenny re-edit of 'its not unusual' with the "i wanna die" lyric looped round and round for ages.. proper proper after-hours smasheroonie.

"Edits - The creative madness continues...."

I'm a creative genius, I took a famous picture and blew it up using a photocopier. There were some details on it which I thought could have worked better so I got a marker pen out and drew on it. I'm going to run a few off and sell them to people.

Olly- 10-05-2009
it is true that sometimes you hear a track and you really like it and champion it and then find out 15 years later it wasn't quite as original as you thought

step forward renegade soundwave by renegade soundwave

which I only recently found out pilfers heavily from serge gainsbourg's bonnie and clyde

So this thread kicked off with the American Standard 12" and this week their back again with edits from Mr. Chinn and Chris Keys - this time getting to grips with Doctor Hook?!? (Shout to Karl Pilkington)

http://www.juno.co.uk/artists/American+Standard/

But that only comes 2nd in this weeks crazy edit competition. Topping the table has to be the Volume 8 in the Djazz series - they've gone and pressed up that crazy theme tune to that animation film from a few years back "Les triplettes de Belleville". Mental
